A child does not have to be taught how to be happy or the ways of love. It is fear, hatred, and prejudice that have to be taught. And from the condition of the world we can see that unfortunately there are some very good teachers.
-- Javan

Buy more, and be happy.

Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness. It is far better to take things as they come along with patience and equanimity.

I have a most peaceable disposition. My desires are for a modest hut, a thatched roof, but a good bed, good food, very fresh milk and butter, flowers in front of my window and a few pretty trees by my door. And should the good Lord wish to make me really happy, he will allow me the pleasure of seeing about six or seven of my enemies hanged upon those trees.
-- Heinrich Heine

If we only wanted to be happy it would be easy; but we want to be happier than other people, which is almost always difficult, since we think them happier than they are.
-- Charles de Montesquieu

If we think of love as in itself the answer to all the problems human beings face, we will constantly be disappointed by it. If we search for perfection in a mate and refuse to be satisfied by anything less than that, we will never really experience sexual or marital love. If we are unwilling to undergo the interpersonal negotiations. . .we will never be able to give our love to anyone. Since love does not simply happen, as I have been suggesting, it must emerge as the saving remnant of our endless yearning for happy and meaningful lives.
-- Irving Singer

If you depend on others to make you happy, you will be endlessly disappointed.

If you think you're getting too much government these days, just be happy that you're not getting all you are paying for.

It has been observed that one's nose is never so happy as when it is thrust into the affairs of another, from which some physiologists have drawn the inference that the nose is devoid of the sense of smell.
-- Ambrose Bierce

It isn't what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about.
-- Dale Carnegie

Love is growing old together, contentedly. Sharing a sunset as you've shared your lives. Happy that your worlds are entwined.
-- Jan Brazill

Man's real life is happy, chiefly because he is never expecting it to be so.

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy and enough money to buy me gifts.

Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
-- Abraham Lincoln

My advice to you is to get married. If you find a good wife you'll be happy; if not you'll become a philosopher.
-- Socrates

No happy time is really gone, if it leaves a special memory.
